Berthing in a crosswind

Look at the wind before you look at the berth. Decide where the bow will go when you slow down, and tell the crew the plan before you turn in.

Your first night passage

Plan the lights you expect to see before it gets dark. Keep the chart ready, keep the cabin lights low and agree the watches early.

Choosing a sailing week

Ask how far the group sails each day and how much it spends at anchor. That says more about a week than the list of islands.
